Musings on the Rich and Famous
I don't deny that I get a little bit envious of the rich and famous who seems to have it all, with their luxurious fashion, jet-setting lifestyle and always looking fabulous and instagram-ready wherever they are, whatever they are doing. I don't begrudge those who worked hard for their fame and fortune, but those who were born into or married into wealthy families? You can't deny they are a bit on the lucky side no? (Though perhaps those who married into the wealthy families probably had to work at it too, but I digress =p)
Anyways, envy aside, I remind myself that probably they have their own set of challenges in life. Money can buy lots of things that can make one happy, but not necessarily fix every single problem in your life. And no doubt being in the limelight and public eye comes with its own unique set of pressure and stresses. So here's my take on things I think the rich and famous deal with which we probably are unaware of:
List of Rich People's Problems
- You probably have to stay fit and fabulous ALL the time. Sure, going for spas/facials/manis/pedis are a treat for us normal folk, but what if you had to do it ALL the time so that you look ever-ready? Not to mention hitting the gym. When you know you probably will end up in the pages of Malaysia Tatler every month due to all the social events you have to attend, it probably ups the ante when it comes to your gym game. No cheat days allowed, and no off days when out and about. Everything have to always look on point every time you step out of the house. After all, how else are you going to inspire/influence others with your #OOTD if you are looking anything less than fabulous?
- You probably can't recycle your clothes. Kate Middleton does it, but nobody's gonna bitch about royalty, right? It's actually quite endearing as it shows them as being "one of the people". Though I'm no way familiar with the workings of high society, I have a feeling the circle may not be as forgiving when it comes to wearing last season's clothes though. Fashion faux pas is probably frowned upon, non?
- In-laws problems. Heard of "Crazy Rich Asians" anyone? Problems with in-laws can happen to anyone and probably is inevitable when it comes to the merging of two different families with their own culture and tradition. But marrying into a rich family may be a totally different ballgame altogether, especially when so much (inheritance, money, fortune) is at stake. One never knows what's going on behind the facade of those picture perfect family portraits.
- What do you do for your next high? You travel to London and Paris as if it's a trip from KL to Singapore, all the big brand names are a call away for you to get your hands on the latest in-season styles, you've ticked off all (and more) stuff on your bucket list - what else is there for you to look forward to for your next high? Even the rich and famous craves for some some novelty and satisfaction, so if you have done it all and seen it all, where do you go from there?
- Perhaps they are also seeking the "simple life". Just because they don't work a 9-to-5 job for their keep, doesn't mean that they have a simple life. Perhaps at heart they are just introverts who wants to potter around their gardens but, due to to social obligations and expectations, can't do so. Can they just up and quit? Maybe yes, maybe no...again, we don't know what goes on behind those polished facades, perhaps they are tied to their own familial obligations to keep up appearances which we are unaware of..and unlike day jobs, you can't quit family, can you?
